Mia’s story is one of resilience and survival. She originally came to CTA from the island of Vieques after surviving abandonment, hurricanes Irma and Maria, and even foaling a baby before being left to die. Fortunately, a local rescue found her and contacted CTA for help, and after a ferry trip back in December 2021, she’s now safe and sound.
Despite everything she’s been through, Mia is full of life again after only four months, but she’s tested positive for Piroplasmosis, which unfortunately means she can’t travel to the US mainland. Therefore, we’re looking for a loving home for her here in Puerto Rico.
Our vet has fully evaluated Mia, and while she has mild arthritis in her fetlocks, she’s great under saddle. However, due to swelling in her limbs from PIRO, she’ll need a place where she can be out most of the time. While Mia can be anxious to handle on the ground in wash stalls and while grooming, she’s not for a beginner.
Rest assured that Mia is up-to-date on everything, and she’s now looking for a forever home where she can continue to thrive. If you’re interested in giving this brave horse the loving home she deserves, please get in touch! ❤️🐴 #adoptdontshop #rescuehorse #secondchance #Mia #makeadifference #PuertoRico
