Implicitly “Mick” is a sweet and loving 2015 bay gelding looking for a patient adopter to help him hone his skills. This handsome boy needs steady guidance as he adjusts to new environments, but once settled in is the sweetest horse who loves to work. Mick shows a talent for flatwork and we think he would thrive doing dressage or similar disciplines.
On the ground – Mick is a gentleman on the ground and stands well for grooming, tacking, untacking, bathing and routine vet visits. He is well behaved for the farrier as well as long as he has someone holding him.
In the pasture/stable – He is currently turned out alone at night and enjoys being stalled during the day to escape the bugs. With proper introduction, he could be turned out with a pasture mate or two. Stands well in his stall with no vices.
Under saddle – Mick willingly walks, trots, and canters on the flat and over ground poles. A straightforward ride, he is soft in the hand, adjustable, and does not require a lot of leg to get going. He has mastered bending at the trot and is working on becoming more supple and relaxed at the canter. He sometimes needs a little extra help picking up the right lead, but has gotten better at it with training. Mick has been ridden in an indoor arena and on outdoor walks around the barn.
Background and physical capability – Mick earned $174,808 with 66 starts and a race record of 10-11-13. His last race was at Santa Rosa on 8/17/2024. He retired with a bone chip in his left fore fetlock and completed rehab after successful surgery to get screws in place. He has no limitations on future flatwork.
Care – He is an easy keeper with no special dietary requirements and is happy wearing front shoes.
Any medical records and pertinent history are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
While our OTTBs receive some post-race training, all are offered as green prospects and will require an adopter who has experience with retraining off-track Thoroughbreds and/or will be working under the guidance of an experienced professional trainer.
