Meet Skatt, a 23-year-old APHA mare with a heart as big as the open range. She’s a retired rope horse who spent last summer carrying her 70-year-old owner before life took an unexpected turn. After she passed, her horses were rehomed, and Skatt was taken in by a loving family to help get some weight on her before she was ready for her forever home. They came to us for help with the difficult process of finding an appropriate home.

She’s vaccinated (as of January 1st), currently on alfalfa hay and Golden Tribute Senior a couple of times a week. Her farrier says she has good feet and knows her job, though she does have some struggles with thrush.

Skatt is as solid as they come—dead broke with no known fears or phobias. She’s a “been there, done that” kind of horse, but at 23, she’s best suited for a light riding lifestyle. She’d be a great first horse for a young rider, a wonderful companion, or just a pasture buddy for someone looking to give a deserving horse a soft landing.

Her only quirk? She has some anxiety if she can’t see other horses, so she’d do best in a home with equine friends. I’m needing to find her literal greener pastures.
