No Ice No Glass “Ice” is a flashy 2020 KY-bred chestnut gelding whose sire is 2017 Belmont winner, Tapwrit. This VERY talented and sensitive horse would love to be someone’s best friend and training partner. Ice is looking for his own person to love him and will excel with an adopter who will take the time to get to know him and go slow to build a strong connection. Once Ice trusts you, he will give his entire heart! His eyes say it all. With his talent, we think Ice think could excel as a natural fit in a dressage, show jumping or eventing home. Ice willingly walks, trots, and canters on the lunge line as well as goes over small jumps. He has been ridden in the indoor arena at the walk, trot, and canter. Ice needs some encouragement with leg, but he is very soft in the hand and naturally adjustable at all gaits as well as easy to bend. He is still learning the basics of riding such as continuing to work around the arena, steering, correct canter leads, etc. as he tends to look to his handler for direction but is very willing. Ice has natural rhythm, large elastic gaits, natural adjustability at all gaits, and he really wants to please both on the ground and under saddle. While he is “all legs” he feels much smaller when ridden and has a small body with soft, elastic gaits. Ice lives outside 24/7 with a herd of six geldings with other geldings over the fence line on two sides. He is mid to low in the herd, has a confident demeanor and seems to really enjoy the company of the other horses, mutually grooming, playing, etc. Ice is easy to catch in the pasture, halter and lead and has not demonstrated any vices. He is very sensitive and light to pressure and stands quietly in a stall, cross ties, for the vet or farrier. Ice needs an adopter who can help him work through his uncertain moments when he gets tense in his mouth and we expect he will continue to relax when matched with his person as he has made great improvements. Ice is currently wearing front shoes and will do best in shoes to support his thinner hoof walls. He has a good appetite and is currently fed free choice second cutting alfalfa/grass hay mix, a concentrate and fat supplement to support his weight. Ice sold for $85K as a yearling. Ice had a short racing career with 7 starts, a race record of 2-0-1 and earnings of $44,850. Ice was retired from racing after his last race on 10/16/2024 at Horseshoe Indianapolis with a right front soft tissue injury. Ice is ready for his new career with you!
Any medical records and pertinent history are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
While our OTTBs receive some post-race training, all are offered as green prospects and will require an adopter who has experience with retraining off-track Thoroughbreds and/or will be working under the guidance of an experienced professional trainer.
