Zara is part of the “Lucky 7” herd, a group of horses whose owner tragically passed away from brain cancer. A family friend reached out to us for help, wanting to ensure the horses found safety and proper care. Estimated to be under 10 years old, with our best guess being around 8, Zara stands at 15 hands and is a well-built, easy-keeping mare. Due to her body condition, she was moved into the diet pen with the cows after we noticed her without her blanket. #ThiccGirl #QuarterHorseBooty
Zara is a natural follower, making her approachable when she’s around other friendly horses. However, if her companions are hard to catch, she tends to mirror their behavior. She quickly bonds with a buddy but doesn’t mind leaving them when needed.
Under saddle, Zara is quiet and has no buck or bolt. If anything, she prefers to take things slow and lacks natural forward movement – an easy fix for an experienced horseperson. She stands calmly while tied, releases to face pressure, yields her hindquarters, and allows her feet to be handled. However, she requires significant farrier work. Her hooves have grown out and will need an experienced barefoot professional to restore proper balance.
We have observed some intermittent lameness in her front left hoof. It is subtle, but after noticing it last week, we continued to monitor her and have seen it again. Further evaluation will help determine the cause and best course of action for her care.

Zara’s rehoming fee will go to the hay fund to ensure we can continue helping Rescue Horses. #AdoptDontShop
