Clover is a 14.3-hand, 16-year-old grade chestnut mare. I’ve owned her for 4 years, and she is sound and very low maintenance. She loads and hauls well.
She is 100% red mare energy — somewhat lazy but very gritty and knows her job. I would consider her more of a push-style horse. Best suited for an intermediate or experienced rider due to her seasoned, smart-mare personality.
I mostly do playdays and barrel races with her. She runs 22–23 second poles and is around a 4D barrel horse, but she has truly been there and done that. From parades, 4-H shows, drill, and camping trips, I’ve dragged tarps and barrels on her and thrown a rope off her. She has won me multiple buckles and even a saddle. She is consistently one of the fastest horses at playdays and is always one to watch if you want to win.
Like many talented mares, she does have a few harmless quirks. She is very dominant around feed and does not like sharing with other animals. She doesn’t love being hosed off or fly-sprayed, but she does not do anything dangerous — she would just rather stay dry. She will also pace at the trailer if tied alone and unable to see her buddies, so she does best hauled alone or with multiple companions.
Otherwise, she is a very solid mare. I truly love this little horse, and I would not be selling her if I had the pen space, but I need to focus on bringing my younger horses along.
