MAVERICK IS OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Maverick is a 6 year old Quarter Horse Cross who stands about 15.1h. Maverick came to us June 28th, 2023 from a Colorado Kill Pen. We were only told that he was young, when we got him we verified that he was about 4 years old. When he got to us we found him to be curious, playful, and sweet as can be. He absolutely loves kids! While he was adopted September 23, 2023 it was unfortunately decided that Maverick wasn’t the right fit for that adopter after all. Maverick came back to us December 7, 2024 and was re-evaluated to see where he is training wise. We will worked with training on him for a few months until we were confident that he would be able to worked with safely as the previous adopter was having some bucking problems. We got him to the point that all he needed to learn was “forward”. Forward was confusing for him (believe it or not this is something that needs to be taught under saddle.) Another adopter came along in May of 2025 who fell in love with him and understood that he needed consistency. Unfortunately, her circumstances changed, and she sold him to a mutual friend, who could not keep him as he was repeatedly mounting her mare. Mav had tried mounting a mare by us in the past, but when that mare told him “no” he stopped. We had him in with older mares and did not have an issue. Being that that person’s mare was a barrel racer she could not have her back sore from his mounting, so we took him back. We are back to looking for his forever person. Being this is the third time Mav has been with us, we are going to be very picky as to where he goes. His person needs to understand that he needs to be worked with in a consistent manner. He is not the type of horse that can sit for a while, and when you take him out he is the same horse. He would benefit from being worked 3-5 days a week. He is very athletic, but at this point he also has a known bucking problem, so his next person also has to understand that we can not guarantee he will never buck again. We are also going to recommend he only be turned out with other geldings. We had him blood tested when we originally got him to confirm proper gelding, and he is a true gelding. We are going to continue to work with him and get him to a good place, but he also deserves a person of his own. He bonds so easily, and is such a sweet soul. He has started participating in healing connection sessions with kiddos and is doing AMAZING with that. He just needs more confidence with the saddle and could go any direction in his training.
