17 year old mare. I rescued her when she was two years old. She had never been handled. I wrote about her rescue story and it was published in All Creatures magazine (she was on the cover!) and a special holiday edition of Guideposts. Because her ears are curled, I had her DNA run by Texas A&M and she came back primarily Holsteiner, but also some Caspian and a little Arabian. I believe her ears curled because she was starved when she was younger. It certainly stunted her growth. She’s around 14.2.
Francie has so much personality. She is friendly, affectionate, and funny. I absolutely love this mare and do not want to let her go, but my spouse deserted two years ago and I’m going to lose the farm. I want her to find a loving home.
Francie is fairly straightforward. Stands for farrier and vet. Current on all shots and Coggins. She stands for mounting. She wants to please and moves forward easily and stops easily. She is responsive to aids. Walk, trot, canter. I wouldn’t put a pure beginner on her because once in a while she will spook at something, but anyone with some riding experience under their belt should be fine. She has been ridden on trails around my place. No vices – she doesn’t kick or bite or buck or rear. If you call her from the field she’ll come running.
No one has ever ridden her but me. I have never taken her anywhere and she has never been in a trailer. Wherever she goes, she will probably need a few days to adjust. She lunges well, but does not need to be lunged before riding, even if it has been months.
She is an easy keeper – never been sick or injured except for when I first rescued her. She is barefoot and has good feet.
