Peptoboons Cash Missy (barn name Star) is a 2024 blue roan filly – homebred and raised on our hill country Texas ranch. You cannot get better backgrounding for a cow horse than this girl – her sire is an own grandson of Peptoboonsmal on his top side. Though he was a performance champion, he also contributes speed to his get – his dam was bred from the Dash for Cash line. Star’s dam, Pepto Dosie, also homebred, is a big gray mare with Peptoboonsmal in her top line. She carries some of the best foundation breeding from the historic Waggoner, Hankins, and King ranch remudas – and she stays calm and including Driftwood, King, Colonel Freckles, San Peppy, Three Bars and Leo.
Star is solidly built but agile with a big square hip, clean straight legs and correct conformation, so she is already showing us some nice moves while being worked in the round pen – she moves off her hind end naturally with a little collection and she keeps her feet under her. This filly is willing to try new things – she has spent lots of hours saddled and tied watching the older horses work. She has been handled plenty – she leads, ties, loads, hauls quiet in the trailer and knows commands in the round pen. We have washed, groomed, combed out her mane and tail, picked up her feet and trimmed them. Star tolerates a spray bottle and she stands still for saddling. She is learning new things every session, yet she stays calm and willing…no bucking, no kicking, no biting.
Star ran out on grass with her dam for a full 6 months, then moved to another pasture to run out with the other weanlings, not kept in a stall, so she is fit and trim – not fat. She will finish growing at at least 15 hh and broaden out with lots of muscle, like both her sire and dam. For right now she is ready for you to continue her education on the ground. Star is in learning mode, and she is ready to learn the job you have for her to do, the way you want her to do it…
