Bess is a 17-year-old, 14.2-14.4hh Haflinger mare in need of a new home. While we don’t have room at our sanctuary, we’re assisting her current owner in finding her a safe and loving placement as soon as possible.

Bess is a former Amish horse who both drives and rides, but has been off for the last year. She appears slightly off in the right front, but that could be temporary. She was retired for a reason, so she won’t likely pass a PPE. She is green under saddle, but willing. She will make a great walk-trot trail mount for a confident rider with a good lead riding trail partner.

She does well on turnout with proper shelter; it’s all she knows. She is a boss mare and rules the field with a heavy hand at times. Until she gets to know and trust you, she may be tricky to catch and slow to warm up. She will need patience and experience, but once you’ve earned it, this diamond will shine bright.

All homes will be thoroughly screened, and the applicant must agree to a lifetime contract to ensure her ongoing safety and well-being.
