Michi Brah (aka Mickey) is an absolute sweetheart. He was relatively lightly raced, with 25 starts over 4 years. He retired sound in 2018 and came to our program in 2019 after some time off.

Mickey is an all-around good citizen and is amateur friendly. Last summer in our program, he went trail riding and was a real trooper (check out the video below of him going through water!) He also performed in a dressage show. Currently, he is being ridden English and Western with ease. He has some solid mileage that makes him a better fit for a wider range of adopters than a lot of our horses. He would do well in a home with someone looking to ride a few times a week, taking lessons to keep him progressing in his aids, and someone that can ride with a gentle hand. He is quite forgiving and ready for you to shape him into the horse of your dreams in a discipline that keeps his feet on the ground. He could do dressage, trail, pleasure riding, or 4H with a good support system.

An important note about Mickey! He will need an adopter who will be responsible about taking care of his hooves. When he arrived to our program, we gave his feet some time to improve and he was adopted out. He was later returned for soundness issues that were corrected quickly having his feet done by a skilled farrier. He needs a farrier well versed in Thoroughbreds, and he will always need front shoes. He’s been getting ‘the works’ every 5 weeks with pads and his adopter should plan to continue this in the near term.

He is currently turned out with a mare and is in charge, but has previously been in a herd of geldings and middle of the pack. Mickey did not do well in a large group if he needed to fend for himself for food.

He has quite a personality and this very sweet gelding is looking for his person to interact with him and enjoy him. He clips, bathes, stands for farrier, easy to mount, gentle to lead, and no vices other than a nibble spot on the wood.

Mickey is available for adoption through Friends of Ferdinand Inc, a Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredited organization that specializes in re-training off track Thoroughbreds. All the horses in our retraining program come fully vetted, with test rides for qualified adopters, and with 30-day trial periods.
