Zeke came to AAE with five other horses in June of 2025. A Nevada law enforcement agency contacted AAE in May 2025 about a group of six horses that may need placement. They were waiting for a judge’s decision. Originally, a group of eight horses was seized by law enforcement due to neglect, and two of the horses were in such poor condition that they were euthanized. Eventually, the court’s decision resulted in a transfer of ownership to the law enforcement agency. While awaiting the court’s decision, the horses were housed and cared for at the Nevada Department of Corrections. While in their care, the horses were well fed and we were told they gained weight and looked much better than when initially seized nearly three months prior.

When we met Zeke, he was a fiery little stallion. He was a tiny but a mighty little stallion that was out to eat the world! It was like he was in a little world filled with fire-eating dragons and he was ready to take them on. Shhhh, we won’t tell him how entertaining it was!  He was vocal and dramatic, and he didn’t hesitate to incorporate acrobatics as the little warrior made his way to the trailer.  After his dramatic objections to haltering, there was a moment of silence when he said ok, then quickly back to the drama. It really wasn’t difficult asking him to follow his female friend, Rosie. He took flight into the trailer after her, but fortunately, the special dividers did their job. He could only admire her through the “window”!

After settling in at AAE for several days, “Mighty Man” has mellowed and drama aside, he’s becoming a rather sweet little guy. Zeke was on the heavier side, but with all the energy he’s exerted, he is slimming a bit for his benefit. His hooves are long and need a trim, and he has quite a few small lumps on different areas of his body. Once he’s done with quarantine, he’ll have his spa day (dental and hoof care, vaccines, deworming, and a microchip), and the “lumps” will be evaluated. Once he’s caught up with basic needs, he’ll visit the hospital for brain surgery. We’re confident this cute lil’ man is going to evolve into an irresistible bundle of cuteness.  Stay tuned for more updates.

Zeke  is now current with dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and he has a microchip. He’ll continue learning as he waits for his new family.

In general, there is a lot of activity around AAE including foot traffic in and out of paddock/pasture areas, mucking with wheelbarrows, grooming and care activities, and weekly farrier visits.  There are various resident animals, as well as various wildlife in and around paddock/pasture areas.  AAE is on a  busy road with high speed vehicles, trucks, and sirens.  Tractors and trucks are used in and around pasture/paddock areas.  Therefore, horses at AAE are accustomed to a more active environment as opposed to a quiet/sterile environment.
