Journee began her life under the worst possible circumstances. Her former owner locked her, her mom and all of their herdmates into a small barn after they got out and animal control told the owner to make sure they don’t escape again. The entire herd lived in the barn 24/7 and did not have access to fresh air or adequate nutrition.

When animal control visited again, the owner decided to quickly relinquish ownership before facing charges and the horses were all sent to several different locations.

By the time Journee arrived with her current owner, she was incredibly emaciated and ataxic from spending her formative months of life neglected confined to a small, crowded barn. Luckily for this filly, her current owner is knowledgeable and immediately reached out to her vet for help with her care.

Journee is making improvement, but still has a long way to go. Her current owner does not foresee having access to enough resources to give her a forever home, and needs to find an experienced horse owner who can continue Journee’s rehabilitation.

The vet believes that this filly will be permanently stunted due to her malnutrition and that her lifespan will most likely be shortened from this early trauma. However, he also believes with adequate nutrition, vet care and freedom of movement that Journee has a guarded, but good chance of recovering enough to enjoy a higher quality of life as a companion animal.

If you are interested in rehoming Journee and giving her a safe forever home, please use the “Visit Website” button to see her AdoptAPet page and fill out an Interest Form. Thank you!
