Nightwing is an (almost) 8-year old Iberian Warmblood gelding, as he is a quarter Andalusian. His father was a paint, and with Nightwing's split-blue eyes, his four white socks, and the star on his forehead, he might be able to be registered as a paint as well. He is 14.3 hands, so he is considered a small horse or a large pony, depending on where you show him. He is registered as "The Flying Grayson" with the Iberian Warmblood Society International (paperwork provided upon purchase). His feet are incredible, so he is completely barefoot and wears very easily between trims. I have not needed to blanket him during the winters, and I've done both all-field board and partial stall board with him. He prefers all field board, but he does just fine in a stall. He does not crib, or have any bad habit like that. He just loves to be outdoors with his friends, no matter the weather.
Nightwing has a background in English hunter/jumper. He walks, trots, and canters, and has thus far jumped a little over 3 feet. We have begun working on flying lead changes, but have not mastered the skill as of yet as I have not been able to ride for a while due to my health. His flying lead changes when he gets them, however, are amazingly smooth and comfortable. He has participated in long trail rides (days long), and he can keep up with any horse on the trail. He is usually lead horse as he is pretty fearless when it comes to any obstacle, and he will go over any "scary" new obstacle his rider tells him is ok to go over/through.
He’s a very smart, willing boy, and he could honestly excel in any discipline. Due to his athletic abilities and his intelligence, he works best with intermediate to advanced riders. He is quick to pick up on any cues, so he only needs a light touch on the mouth, along with light pressure on his sides when asking him to perform any maneuvers. I have even ridden him bitless and had almost the same amount of control as with a bit. I’ve only done a couple of shows with him myself, but he placed in both shows and even won as champion in the larger show.
He loads and bathes very well, and he also knows some free lunging. I’ve never clipped him, but I know he has been clipped. He is a very sweet, amazing boy. He’s a killer combination of smart and athletic, and he is honestly the best horse I have ever ridden. He could become a champion show pony, but I just haven't shown him much as I don't prefer doing shows. The ONLY reason I am selling him is because I have been diagnosed with a chronic health issue and therefore I cannot give Nightwing the time or attention that he deserves. This has been one of the hardest decisions I have had to make, and the reason he is priced so low (for his abilities- he is worth closer to $5-6,000) is because I am looking for the perfect home for him and I don't want price to be a deterrent. As such, price is somewhat negotiable. I am also willing to sell all of his tack, blankets, etc. with him for just another $500 (that includes 1 English saddle, 1 Western saddle, a Parelli bareback pad, 2 winter blankets of differing weights, 1 fly sheet, etc.). I will ask that his new owner keep in touch with me to let me know how he is doing, and the new owner must inform me if ever deciding to sell him so that I can keep in touch with whomever currently owns him. I love this horse, and I want to make sure he is always taken care of.
More videos and photos available upon request! Sorry the video is so old right now (he used to be named Cowboy). I am working on taking newer ones with me riding him.
