The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Ranch Hand I for its Doris Day Horse Rescue & Adoption Center. The main responsibilities of this position are to clean horse pastures and stalls, repair and renovate existing pastures and assist with construction of new ranch facilities; distribute feed and supplements to animals; perform landscaping/grounds keeping duties around ranch; assist with capture and handling of horses; observe animals for signs of illness/injury; participate in animal enrichment tasks; assist with reparation and construction of ranch fences, and otherwise assist with animal care and the operation and maintenance of the sanctuary. This position works alongside volunteers and interns so team skills are required. High School diploma or equivalent along with one to three years experience in a ranch environment highly desired. Applicant must be able to move/lift 75 pounds; to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and to work with a variety of animals.
