Tex does it all. He loves to be the leader on a ride or ride alone. He has a super slow jog on the trail that he will do all day. We have camped every year with him at East Fork Stables and in May 08 we went to Maryland and rode him on the beach. Tex has no fear of water or rivers. He will ride anywhere. I have placed in an extreme cowboy race and found he is afraid to walk between two cages of chickens which gave me fifth place. Tex does flying lead changes even before you ask if you change your weight or switch diagonals. You can move him with your seat and legs very easily. He is very soft in the mouth and we ride him with a lifesaver snaffle at the shows and a plain D-ring on trails. He is super easy to ride. The more you know the better he is. A beginner cannot appreciate what he can do. The teens at my barn ride him in the local shows. He does all the obvious.....loads,bathes, ties, clips, stands for vet, shots, and farrier, backs, turns on forehand and hindquarters. You do not need to teach him anything once you figure out his buttons. He is a very willing horse and never gets upset. We rode bareback with bridles and then halters on the beach and around the campgrounds. You will always win the ride a buck contest with him if you can sit a nice trot. Tex is one of the first to come and see you in the pasture and follow you and try and help you with your chores. ha.
My husband is learning to Ranch Sort and Tex is a good boy to learn on. HE is very forgiving if you pull and yank.. while chasing the cow...with beginner riders. ha ha He will cut one if you know what your doing but he does not do it unless asked... ... We ride with spurs if we are showing and or doing ride challenges to get the exact executions of the tasks. He can go from zero to run and then back to a slow pace without getting upset. He will never get in your space. Tex is a steal at this price. He is up to date on everything, is sound and has no vices.
