JC is a great little mare. She came to us from a ranch in Colorado, where she earned her living. Since coming to our home, she has been used as a lesson horse for kids, been trail ridden by beginners, used for mounted security, ridden on the road (in traffic), used for games, barrels, and poles (by both beginners and experienced riders). Needless to say, she is a very versatile/useful horse (Please note that, out of principal, I do not sell horses as "kid broke" or "kid safe." I think I have a very safe horse, but, in my opinion, it is up to parents to determine suitability for their children).
JC has a good handle (neck reins very easily), and she is very calm under saddle. She has a naturally low headset and a somewhat tough mouth (which means beginners can ride in her mouth, and she doesnt get upset....a must have for a lesson horse). She is more than willing to walk (her preferred pace) with a timid rider; however, she lopes on que for the more experienced riders. This mare knows her leads, and she will change leads on a dime. JC will ride in a snaffle bit or halter. She rides single, double, or bareback. She even runs barrels and speed events in a snaffle bit, without a tie-down. She will walk quietly into the arena, walk the pattern, lope the pattern or run the pattern. She does not get hot at the gate, and she never gets hot once finished running. In fact, I have run barrels and had 5 y/o kids riding her within 15 seconds of exiting the arena!!! This mare is not prone to spooking, and she is very calm on the trails. She has been ridden all over the mountains of East Tennessee (some of the roughest terrain in the US), and she is very sure footed. I cannot say enough good things about this mare. Everyone around the house from 5 to 50 has ridden her without problems.
JC loads exceptionally well (you dont even walk into the trailer with her), stands tied, and she is quiet on the ground (and under saddle). She bathes and fly sprays well. She does require a twitch to clip her ears. JC is a very easy keeper (JC stand for Jenny Craig), and she stays fat on pasture only....she gets no grain. She will pony other horses, and she does not kick other horses on the trails.
This type of horse is extremely hard to find. I have third-party references of adults and parents of children who have ridden this mare/taken lessons on this mare. I am happy to provide those upon request. As far as I know, this mare is completely sound with no health problems.
Please feel free to call Dan at 865-765-9801. I will be happy to give you a very honest, detailed description of this horse, answer any of your questions, and discuss JC's suitability for your situation.
Come look at her and make an offer!!!
I am also willing to take a bumper pull horse trailer in on trade.
