Eli is a bay 5 year old OTTB gelding. His Registered name is Neon Tan, so you will understand why we have decided to call him something else. :)
Since coming off the track, and having his time off to regroup, he has been coming along quite nicely under saddle.
Eli w/t/c, is grasping the basics of swapping leads (we aren't there just yet, but he has the idea of it), started leg yields, turns on the haunches, backing, etc. We have lightly started work over fences, (xrails and small verticals), and he does seem to very much enjoy it.
Has always had a nice natural frame, but has also learned to hold himself correctly in a dressage type frame.
He went to one show in September (none since due to my schedules getting in the way), and he was perfect while there. Stood quietly tied to the trailer (first time), surrounded by new horses/noises/etc and he was an absolute gentleman. We came in 4th and 5th out of 9 in the w/t pleasure classes and i was very pleased with him. (There is a video of the show on youtube. Please look up KissMeEli at the Meadows).
We have also been doing as much trail riding as time allows. (Weather and work permitting). He has gone out several times alone, as well as with 1-4 other horses. We have gone up and down large hills, jumped over many logs, through streams (he has been very good with them once he learned they were ok), in lakes and so on. Have done the whole riding away from the other horses, or them going off tests and he passed with flying colors. Has no issues being in the front or the back. If he gets nervous/scared at something he will back, but listens to the rider and goes forward when asked.
He has had a deer pop out of nowhere (as they seem to like to do..) and did not react to it. We also had to switch horses one time, as my students' horse was being naughty, so i rode her horse, and had her ride Eli. Both were excellent out on the trails, and we even met the Millstone Hunt club and their very loud, fast moving hounds. He was quite well behaved for all of it.
We have not had any issues with cars/trucks/quiet motorcycles going past us. It is also hunting season in the park we ride in, so he has heard gunshots pretty close by and is fine with it.
He is learning to self load onto the trailer (hasn't 100% got it, but has the basics down :)) and will load fine when you lead him on.
Had his feet done 11/19/13 and does need to wear front shoes.
Had teeth and shots in the spring.
Currently turned out with mares, though has no issues with geldings. Is the top horse in this field, though that may be different if with other horses.
Is fine in a stall by himself, but does like to be turned out within eyesight of other horses. Easy to catch in the field, and is currently on 24/7 turn out. No bad habits/vices (cribbing/stall walking/bucking/rearing etc).
Is incredible trying. He tries his hardest to do what you want him to, even if he doesn't quite get it. Easy to work with and around.
Has been exposed to dogs at the farm and on the trails, small children running around him when on cross ties and in the arena, goats/sheep/chickens/cows (next door neighbor has a very large herd that we pass to get to the trails), etc.
I have many videos up on youtube. All are under KissMeEli or Rivendellhorses (my user name).
He is more than welcome to stay at Fobota Farm as a boarder if his new owner is local.
Thank you for taking a look at my handsome boy, and please let me know if you have any questions.
