"Fiona" is a really lovely, elegant 9 yo Hanoverian mare standing a bit under 16.1h with a golden disposition! She is just wonderful to handle and is extremely gentle and kind, even enough for small children to work around! Her good attitude extends to her under saddle work - she is super uncomplicated to ride and loves to hack on the buckle. However, she has a good bit of knowledge and was schooled to Second Level in professional training prior to having some downtime to have a very nice foal at the end of May 2012.
We started Fiona back to work this winter and she's been a real delight. She is very safe and sane, no lunging needed, not at all spooky and has suprisingly HUGE gaits with a big natural extension and a gigantic canter step - certainly with a flat enough knee for the hunters but the tremendous power, ability, and attitude for dressage. She will go on the buckle in a rubber snaffle or frame up for more serious dressage work. Fiona also has shown a love for jumping and a good natural ability and great form. She's brave and willing and also has a good lead change though it hasn't been schooled since her start was in dressage.
Fiona is quietly forward natured under saddle, and prefers someone who is a kind and gentle, softer rider that will allow her to take care of them (has a packer type mentality) and do her job, but is very tolerant of mistakes and takes a joke very well. At this point, Fiona could go into whatever arena you choose and seems to show the kind of athleticism, scope and step to do the 3'6" divisions in the hunter ring. Or, she could go back to the dressage arena and pick right up with her work there. She would even make a wonderful event horse or field hunter given her super brain but great aptitude for both dressage and jumping. She trail rides wonderfully and is just plain enjoyable to ride and be around - the kind you look forward to riding each time! It's also wonderful that she doesn't need to be ridden daily; she's quiet and sensible even being ridden just once or twice a week, and is all business. She has a little bit of show experience also, and she is great away from home in new places.
Fiona is currently being ridden solely by amateurs, and also a young junior rider frequently in lessons. She'd make a great family horse for both mother and daughter(s)! Needless to say, Fiona has perfect ground manners and is super for the farrier, vet, body/face clipping, shipping, etc. She also has incredibly good feet and has been very sound barefoot and has no special needs. She is big bodied and takes up your leg well - rider in video is 5'10.
We have priced Fiona very conservatively to attract a quicker sale in order to offset some of our large breeding expenses this year. She is a great investment at this price and will continue to appreciate as she gains mileage, and has already proven herself a valuable broodmare as well, taking first try with frozen and is a super mother. She is registered with the American Hanoverian Society.
Price may be negotiable for quick/easy sale and terms may be available. We pride ourselves on being flexible and easy to work with, so please don't hestitate to contact us regarding this lovely mare. We are located in NE North Carolina about 45 minutes from Norfolk, VA area.
