Tanzanite is pictured here as an awkward growthy 3 year old with a sunbleached coat. Sorry. She is a gorgeous filly and will be quite the show stopper once she has finished maturing.
This filly is by the approved Premium ATA Trakehner stallion Tanzeln and has been registered with the American Trakehner Association as a half Trakehner. As an ATA registered horse she can compete in Trakehner classes as well as open divisions. She is also eligible for ATA Awards and futurities.
Her sire, Tanzeln, is from a well known and successful line of Trakehners. He is an approved Premium stallion and is currently competing in dressage. Tanzanite's dam is a 16hh Appaloosa mare with approximately 7/16 Thoroughbred blood. She has some of the Wap bloodlines which are very good Appaloosa Sport Horses proven in open competition.
Tanzanite was foaled on 5/30/2009. She is feminine and refined with a dishy face and medium bone. She looks more like a Polish bred Arabian with spots thrown on her. We expect to mature in the range of 15.3 to a maximum of 16.0hh based on current growth and string test. Her sire comes from a slow-to-mature line of Trakehners and her dam continued to grow until she was 7.
Tanzanite has a blanket with spots (and spots on her belly), mottling, striped hooves and sclera. Tanzanite is a feminine and easy going filly that is friendly but respectful of your space. She does enjoy running, playing and showing off in the pasture. While she has been growing we've observed her moving much like an Arabian, complete with tail in the air, and will likely be a nice little dressage prospect and all around riding horse. Her size at maturity should be perfect for a petite to average female rider.
Tanzanite was born and raised here at Altamont Sport Horses. She has had no known injuries, illnesses or soundness issues. Her feet are good and have been consistently maintained since she was a young foal. She has been handled daily and lives outside 24/7 where she has been building nice strong bones and joints.
We generally wait until the 4 year old year to start horses under saddle because they grow longer. Tanzanite is still growing so we have been taking it slow but she should be ready to start her groundwork soon. We will start her training this Spring and continue while she is still with us. Her price is subject to change with maturation and training.
NOTE (3/23/2013): These are the most current photos we have (from 2012). Unfortunately we have had a very wet winter and cannot make any videos until ground conditions improve and winter coats begin to shed. We will take updated photos and video this Spring.
Tanzanite is completely sound and should be a nice riding horse. However, if you are looking to have some foals she should be able to produce some nice sport horse babies for you as well. Tanzanite is eligible for inspection and approval with the RPSI and the Danish Knabstrupper Society (KNN) in one of the Knabstrupper mare books for producing registered Knabstrupper foals when bred to an approved Knabstrupper stallion such as our RPSI and KNN approved Knabstrupper stallion "Atlantis".
We are happy to offer a reduced breeding fee if you would like to breed Tanzanite to Atlantis for a Knabstrupper foal or to Hollywood Hot Spot if you would like to produce an Appaloosa Sport Horse foal. Stallion at Stud advertisement flyers for both stallions are included here for your information. They can also be seen listed at stud on this website.
